NUTRITION BOOKS

Endurance Sports Nutrition Book (Copyright 2000, 296 pages)Endurance Sports Nutrition Book - Suzanne G. Eberle

A properly hydrated and fueled body is essential for endurance sports, and if you don't give your nutrition needs the attention they deserve, your performance will suffer. To successfully compete in marathons, triathlons, adventure races, and other endurance sports, you need a nutrition plan that works over the long haul. Endurance Sports Nutrition provides detailed nutrition advice along with customized sport-specific eating plans to ensure the food choices you make will keep you going before, during, and after competition. Author Suzanne Girard Eberle, MS, RD, draws from her background as a registered dietician specializing in sports nutrition and an elite endurance athlete to tell you what works ý and what doesn't ý in actual training and racing situations. The most comprehensive resource of its kind, this prescriptive book is unique in that it includes tried-and-true advice from endurance athletes at the top of their sports. World-class athletes like triathlete Karen Smyers, marathon runner Keith Brantly, marathon swimmer Tobie Smith, and cyclist Kerry Ryan share their knowledge from their years of training and competing among the world's best. Endurance Sports Nutrition can help you maximize your performance in these sports:

  • Running
  • Triathlon
  • Swimming
  • Rowing
  • Cycling
  • Mountain biking
  • Cross-country skiing
  • Adventure racing
  • Mountaineering/trekking

Athletes involved in any endurance sport will find the first eight chapters full of practical nutrition information. Learn how to bolster your training diet, reach or maintain a healthy weight, handle extreme environments, and select performance-enhancing supplements. Female and vegetarian endurance athletes will also find specific advice geared toward their special needs. In the remaining chapters, Girard Eberle teams up with several elite endurance athletes to reveal the winning nutrition strategies they use while competing. Beginners to hard-core competitors will find tips on how to apply these strategies, as well as advice on how to avoid common race day mistakes. Get as serious about your diet as you are about your sport. Endurance Sports Nutrition prescribes just the right combination of foods, fluids, and supplements to get you across the finish line in record time.
